Trying to blog once again…

•October 2, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Despite my efforts, I can’t seem time to write in this blog. I have several posts planned out, but never get the opportunity to write them.

Tonight is the 3rd birthday of the Greenhouse, the youth ministry I work with. We’re having a special night with music outdoors, and some games and stuff. I am very excited about it. I can’t wait! I think it will be awesome.

I am also excited because since we are going to play outdoors, I get to crank my amp up, which is something I have only gotten to do once before. I loved it

(By the way, I never got that post done either, the mystery guitar gear… I’ll get mys sister to take some pics for it tonight.)

I’ll try to blog about the evening after I get back tonight.

What can I blog about…

•August 20, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Well. The move is all done, finally. We are in our new house, which will be my home untill sometime in October, at which time, I shall move again.

Anyway, to the point of the post. Since I’ve got internet again, and a little bit of free time, I can do some blogging again. My problem is, what can I blog about? I can’t blog about my job or technology, not much is going on with the band…

I realized what I can blog about… Foofd! sort of…

Working in downtown Charleston, SC on King Street means that there are a lot of good restraunts in walking distance. I guess I’ll try to blog about the new places I go and eat. I already have two places in mind. Keep checking back!

Apple Retail Policy

•July 14, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Well, I have some news on Apple retail policy.

Apple Policy says that I cannot blog about, comment on, take pictures of, offer opinions, reviews, tips, or tutorials on Apple products, partner products, or competitor’s products. End of story, company policy. Expect to see a lot less tech posts in the blog here.

Sorry.

Wow! I now have a job. I’m an Apple Store Specialist. It’s pretty cool. I’ll be working at the King Street store. We aren’t open yet, but we will be pretty soon.

Concert

Hey readers!

Long time no post… life is hectic.

Anyway, we in Out_of_the_Ash are having our first real concert in almost a year. It’s going to be 97 in the shade, but I think it will be awesome. It’s 45 minutes away, and right next to a small airport. A worship band from a church will be opening up, and Thirsty Souls, a band we used to tour with, will be following us.

Keep us in your prayers, I know that it will be rough, because we’ve been out of the concert groove for a while. Also, if this is a God-blessed event, then you know Satan will attack to try to stop it.

I’ll try to post to let you guys know how it went. (I’ll get you use my new gear in it’s full capacity!) Maybe you’ll even get some pics…

Poor Advertising

So I was watching CSI Miami online at CBS’s website. They have full episodes you can stream with minimal commercials. This is great for someone like me, who is out most nights and has poor broadcast reception.

Anyway, one of the repeating commercials during the episode was one for a new kind of PAM™ spray. Instead of having me wanting to buy their product, I am instead enticed by their depictions of noodles. I now crave pasta.

Seems like they need to work on their form. Although, I guess it could be hard to depict a tasteless spray designed to keep food from sticking to cookware. I’m more interested in what’s not sticking, instead of what they’re selling. I guess their product worked for me took. Their product didn’t stick to me.

New Gear

Hey all you readers,

I just got some new gear over the weekend. I am really excited about it. I will definately be posting some info on it soon. It was something I had been really wanting for a long time, and will definately help me out both on stage and in the studio.

(The reason I’m not giving any more details is because my band members read this blog and I want to surprise them)

Civic Duty… wonderful

Well, last week I got a summons to be on jury duty. My first time. I wasn’t exactly excited, but I was wondering what it would entail. (Any snacks?)

So yesterday, I drove down to the courtroom, which is inside the City service center. It’s about a 15 minute drive. The trial was at 2pm, so I wanted to get there early. I got there about 1:45. I turned in my summons, and sat down in the court. And waited. Then, I waited some more. Finally, about 2:20, the judge came out. She thanked us for attending and announced that this was the trial of The State vs. Mr. _____. The judge then asked if the victim was present, which they were not. The defense council stood and said that the victim had never been present at any pre-trial hearings. Then the state prosecutor stood and said that since no victim has come forward, and that the state would like to drop charges. The judge dismissed the case, and we were free to go.

Well, that was great. I used up a gallon of gas and an hour and a half of my time, to find out that somebody had flaked out and the state dismissed charges.

I hope I don’t get Jury Duty again for a long time. Unless it’s something interesting.

Simply Ouch

Well today was a very interesting day for me. I woke up at 3:30am (no it wasn’t for a good reason) and have been quite exhausted.

To start off why I woke up so early, I did because I was in excruciating pain. I could not move my right arm and it was everything I could do to not just scream. Evidently, sometime last week, quite possibly at Greenhouse, I did something to my shoulder. I don’t know what it was, but I suspect it had something to do with moving around the Line 6 Flextone II XL amp that I use there. This amp, which we have dubbed “The Behemoth” or more commonly “The Rock Monster”, weighs in at around 65lbs. I suspect most of that weight is in the speakers and cabinet.

Anyway, Friday or Saturday, I noticed that it was a bit sore, but didn’t think anything about it. On Monday it was starting to be enough to really bother me. It seemed that every morning I would wake up to more and more pain. By Thursday, I couldn’t lift anything more than 15 pounds and normal things like cutting cheese ( I love cheese) or pouring a glass of milk became strenuous activities. It was quite a bother when I was driving yesterday as well. Then, this morning somewhere between 3:30 and 4am I rolled over in bed and felt a searing pain in my shoulder. No matter what I did, it would not leave me. I lay there in agony till about 7:30 when I mustered the strength to get out of the bed. I got some ibuprofen and woke my parents up to ask their advice. They agreed that I should see a doctor. My normal provider was closed on Saturday, so we had to go to a Doctor’s Care quick-in type place.

My mom had to take the cat for shots today so she couldn’t leave with me till later. When we finally got to the doctor, they took a while before they could see me. The Doctor did some stretches of my arm to determine the damage. They took X-Rays (which involved twisting my arm into agonizing positions to be able to line the bones up right for the picture. After the X-Ray, the Doctor came back and said that it was probably a strained tendon or ligament, or possible muscle. She prescribed 800mg of Ibuprofen an said I could have a steroid shot (in the hip, or actually the rear end) to ease the inflammation. She also recommended that I take Physical Therapy to work back the tissue and to determine if there was anymore damage.

Fortunately the meds combination seems to work well and I am actually in relative comfort for the first time in almost a week. I don’t know how long that will last till the shot wears off. I’m going to put a rice-bag hot pack on it in the mornings to loosen it up and when I have been working it, I have a bag of frozen peas to put on it.

By the way, this could not have come at a worse time (accept before a major paying gig, perhaps) because I am trying to pack up my stuff and help my parents move furniture. Guess that’ll have to wait. I’d appreciate your prayers for me! I’ll post some more stuff soon (interesting cool stuff happening in my life) keep checking back!

In Christ,
JS

My Absence

Hey readers,

Sorry I haven’t been posting. Life has been crazy. I’m trying to get school out of the way, and also trying to get packed up for a move. I hope to be posting some more stuff soon. I haven’t forgotten about the blog or given it up, I’ve just been so busy…
