Acquire The Fire

Acquire The Fire. Battle Cry. ReCreate. All names for the same event. For the purposes of simplicity, I’ll call it ATF. It has absolutely nothing to do with the Bureau of Tobacco and Firearms. Random thought, just thought I’d throw that in there for humor. ATF is a 2 day Christian youth conference filled with worship, drama, worship, speakers, messages, worship, great bands and more worship. Did I mention there was an awesome band doing worship? The band doing worship (which I really love, they are quite original) is called Unhindered. They have many songs that I love, but we haven’t done many at Greenhouse. They also have special guest speakers, one of which is Phil Joel, who used to be the Bass player for The Newsboys.

Bands featured at this year in Winston Salem will include Stellar Kart, a band who I saw on their debut tour, in 2006 . That concert is also

where I met a guy who would later (despite my early impressions) become a good friend of mine. We will also see David Crowder. He is a awesome worship leader who writes some of the stuff we do here at the Greenhouse. One of my favorites is a song called “O Praise Him”. It is one of the first songs that came into my head after I found out my friend DML had become a Christian. Incidentally, his decision to give his life to Christ came one week after ATF last year. I had been witnessing to him, and I realized there that I needed to let God work through me, instead of just working for God. Right after that, stuff started falling in place for moving him towards salvation so fast that I didn’t even quite realize what was going on.

Ron Luce is the main speaker, as always. I didn’t really care for him that much last year. He seemed sort of brash and antagonistic. Now that I have matured and grown in some wisdom and discernment I’ll have to see what I think of him this year.

I’m going with a group from Greenhouse sponsored by First Baptist Church of Ravenel. Almost all of the band is going, including our previous guitar player, our Bass player’s niece who is a great friend of mine, almost all of the guys who are my “little brothers”, including DML, mentioned above. I have many friends going and our group will be about 40-45 people. We’re taking 3 vans. Be praying for us, for safety, and that us who go will Acquire The Fire, and bring it back for all to see. Pray also for certain people who I know God is going to do great things for at this event.

I don’t know whether I will be able to post anything from ATF, but I will try to.
